Every time we think about studying English, we think
of a room full of students sitting next to each other. The teacher
teaches, the students study, and when the two-hour-a-day, two-day-a-week
class finishes, everyone cheers.
A week later, the class goes on again, and again.
Several months pass. Several months of teaching and studying go
on and on, but, the students feel that their skill in using English,
compared to the time spent, doesn't improve more enough. They still
can't watch TV or listen to radio in English. They still can't cheerfully
read novels, newspaper or whatever, or, even worse, communicate with others
in English. What's wrong with the class?
There is nothing wrong if we look at the outcome.
Almost all classes nowadays intend to provide students with knowledge
of English. The classes meet their goal. Their students know and
understand English more than ever. They know what English consists
of. They know how to use English; how to listen, speak, read or
write. But to be good at using English does not just KNOW HOW. The
students have to USE it, have to EXPERIENCE it, for real, not just
KNOW it. Knowing is not enough, You must take action.
I don't have foreign friend to speak with,
I can't afford to go abroad, and I have no time to go to tutorial
school, so how can I improve my English?" Many people raise
this question. In my perspective, English is used in four ways:
1) to listen, 2) to speak, 3) to read and 4) to write. As you can
see, YOU can USE each of which by yourself. For examples, you can
read a book alone, you can listen to radio alone, you can write
something alone, and you can speak, of course, alone. Haven't you
written, or spoken to yourself, in your own language? Practice makes
perfect, after using English in certain way and for certain hours,
believe it or not :) your four skills -- listening, speaking, reading
and writing -- will improve automatically.
How long am I to practice in order to be successful?"
many asked. How long do you want it to be? I
often answered. It depends on your intention. If you practice English
two hours a day, seven days a week, you'll have 240-hour skill in
four months. If you practiced about three to four hours a day, seven
days a week, you'll have 240-hour skill in three months. But If
you commit to practice eight hours a day, seven days a week, you'll
achieve 240-hour skill in only one month. I had many students do
240 hours in one month. Remember, since repetition is the mother
of skill, if you want to get more skill, you have to repeat your
lesson again and again until it's deep-rooted in your mind.
How
can I do that?" We have a tool for you to improve your
skills in using English by yourself. We especially design it to
meet the need of Non-native English speaker. We found that our tool
can be the most effevtive techology of its kinds. If only you used
to study basic rules of grammar in your high-school graduate, you
can use the tool.
